La Casa Roja

El Remate, Lake Peten Itzá, Peten

Casa Roja is a small rustic ecotourism "hub"in El Remate on Lake Peten Itza. Our thatched-roofed houses were built using local materials only and recreating the Maya’s colors and built-in style. Casa Roja is comfortable and affordable. Our visitors may use our bikes to get around the village or may rent our kayaks to explore the lake... Our vegetarian food is healthy, nutritious and delicious! At Casa Roja you may also recover your energy after exploring the jungle or plan your next adventure!

At Casa Roja you may find out how you may participate in the community’s health and development with the local doctors or you may have a hands-on experience protecting nature: planting a tree or monitoring our birds in our small private reserve...

WHAT TO DO IN AND AROUND EL REMATE...

El Remate is a great starting place to discover El Peten and all it has to offer. We are only half an our away from Tikal, so you may enjoy a sunrise and sunset over the magnificent ruins and still get back to El Remate so you don’t miss all the fun! The Biotopo Cerro Cahui is only 400 meters away from our doorstep! El Remate is a favorite with hikers and bikers. If you like swimming, kayaking or realaxing under the sun after your archaeological explorations this is the place to be! El Remate is a particularly good birding site and stargazers will simply fall in love with the place. Explorers are discovering our walks to other lagoons and archaeological sites around the region as well as our fantastic night wildlife spotting expeditions on Lake Peten Itzá.
