The Maya Goddess Ixchel,
Goddess of Weaving... |
Because of our eco-logical focus we have been certified by ECOTEL, a US based organization
which acknowledges the efforts of environmentally sensitive hotels and lodges. We provide
high quality services with as low an environmental impact as possible. Our visitors are
encouraged to "take only pictures and leave only footprints".
If you are looking
for a hands-on experience you will fall in love with Villa de los Castellanos, as you
participate in our reforestation programs. So far we have planted 10000 Spanish
Ceders, 800 "Jocote Fraile" trees, 2700 "Matilishuates", 500
Mahoganies and hundreds of medicinal plants. |
We
hope to be able to educate others so that more and more people will plant trees instead of
cutting them down! We share the information we have on land use, forestry and soil
conservation.
We know that growing
forests is far more productive and sustainable than slash and burn agriculture and cattle
ranching... Trees also look more beautiful and the toucans that used to live in the South
of the Peten are coming back! Students and dedicated conservationists are welcome and
enjoy special rates. |
